VてからVします
You can use “Vて から” to connect two sentences. It is often used when doing things in order. It is similar to the usage of “VてVします” in Lesson 4.
①ホテルにつきます。
②レストランをさがします。
ホテルについてから、レストランをさがそう。
Let’s look for a restaurant after we get to the hotel.
①何か食べます。
②タクシーに乗ります。
何か食べてから、タクシーのろう。
Let’s eat something before taking a taxi.
１. Strictness of order
When connecting sentences with “Vて“, the order of the previous action and the following action does not have to be very strict.
おんせんに入って、おいしいおさけをのむ。
You soak in the hot springs and drink delicious sake.
In this case, it doesn’t really matter to Akihiro which comes first, the hot spring bath or the delicious sake.
何か食べてから、タクシーのろう。
Let’s eat something before taking a taxi.
However, in this case, Yuki is expressing that she would like to eat something before getting into the taxi.
２. Number of consecutive sentences
“Vて” can be used to connect multiple verbs.
から〜いタイ料理を食べて、（1）
海でダイビングして、（2）
あとニューハーフショ―を見に行く! （３）
Eat spicy Thai food, dive in the ocean, and go see a ladyboy show!
Above, Yuki talks about three things she wants to do in Thailand.
町に行ってから、（１）
ほかのかんきんじょをさがそう。（２）
Let’s go into the city and find another exchange place.
However, the number of sentences that can be connected with “Vてから” is only two.
